Walking in the Rain

When we moved to northern Virginia from Capitol Hill, the options to walk widened. We walked in the most foul weather in DC - snow, ice, cold, wind, rain, heat. And we had every type of garment to wear based on the dictating environment. Here, we preferred to walk in the mall whenever the conditions outside became foul - until about eight months ago when everything was shut down. Even though places have reopened to a certain degree, we haven’t been inside any establishment since March, except for the eye doctor and to have blood work done. So the last few days have been raining. Not just drizzle either, but pouring rain. I simply refuse to walk in downpours even if we have ten umbrellas. Since we now live in a condo with an underground garage and parking, it’s the perfect place to walk in during these occurrences. The scenery is less than desirable, but at least you can stretch your legs. It reminds me of the very long hallways in the Library of Congress Madison building where I worked for ten years.  Every afternoon I would walk eight times around the very long halls in this huge building and log on miles. We ended up putting in 1.5 miles yesterday - less than our two mile daily goal. We do have a fitness center in the building but neither my husband nor I use it and it isn’t open anyway because of the virus. We do prefer the outside so much more, but beggars can’t be choosers.
