Red River Zoo in Fargo - in search of Prairie Dogs

Aside from the roadkill along the freeway, we didn't see even one prairie dog on our roadtrip to the great Pacific Northwest from DC. So before we headed out for Minnesota to visit with friends, we decided to stop by the Red River Zoo in Fargo to see the prairie dogs there. When we reached the prairie dog section, it was empty - except for a sign to say that they bite. I'm sure it was too early in the morning and they were all still sleeping. What was that all about? It is a small zoo tucked away in the middle of town with a little bit of this and a little bit of that. So we kept walking through and saw a couple of wolves, a turkey, cows, goats, rabbits, pigs, porcupine, eagle, otters, and monkeys. My husband hates zoos and said he would sneak back and open all the cage doors. When we were leaving  a wedding party was making their way to the designated space. Perhaps someone who works there thought it would be the appropriate spot for the festivities? Or maybe an animal lover? All I know is we didn't see a prairie dog - again! I don't think I believe they exist!
