Early Spring in DC

It’s been a while since we have visited the national mall. The last few outings have taken us to the Lincoln memorial area for morning walks. When we lived on Capitol Hill for thirteen years the mall was our neighborhood. In spring it is simply lovely to see the world come to life. And so today we ventured out and parked right next to the air and space museum which remains under construction at least through summer. There were hints of spring on our way to the Smithsonian castle. Both the Mary Livingston and Enid Haupt gardens were starting to show all of their glory. The magnolias are just budding and almost ready to burst. I hope the snow prediction for the weekend doesn’t ruin them all. The baby size daffodils remind us of our borzoi - we planted a few for her when we lived in the Midwest. We call them Tatiana flowers now. The sun was out but it was a bit cold when the winds were blowing right at us. The crowds are getting larger with spring break students. I liked it all to myself more over the last two years. This is usually the busiest time of year in anticipation of the cherry blossoms. We always look forward to it. Seeing the new growth and spring flowers is always so pleasing.
