Smart Living Cookie Sheet and Toll House Cookies

We have never baked cookies - or for that matter - baked much of anything else except for bread. We did have a bread machine that we used a bit, but we left that in the Midwest when we moved to DC sixteen years ago due to lack of space. So it was odd when my husband said that we should bake cookies. I reminded him that making cookies means having a mixer and other equipment - including a cookie sheet - unless he wanted to do the ready made dough route. So this week at the grocery store we got a smart living cookie sheet, but not a rack for cooling, and the toll house pre made dough for chocolate chip cookies. Yesterday we decided to try our luck and preheated the oven. The cookie sheet is rather small and could hold six oversized teaspoons of the dough. Not knowing how our oven would work as to the time to bake, we set the alarm to the recommended amount. The first batch was a bit overdone! I suppose that wasn’t a surprise. The second batch came out a bit better - since we figured out how much it should take. In the end the cookies were okay, but it also reminded me that you can get more in number and equal or better taste and at about the same price by buying a bunch in the grocery bakery. I suppose most of it is the thrill of it all. It was a bit nostalgic, but I’m not sure it was enough to want to do again.
