Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

What Does Marquette Have To Do With The Library of Congress?
If you talk to someone long enough you more than likely will find a connection. And so it was when I ran in to a couple entering the Madison Building after lunch. They weren't sure where they were or where they were going. They were just wandering the neighborhood and this looked like a good place to get out of the heat. Getting past security is always a challenge for visitors, and the police were not very helpful giving directions. So I offered to walk them to the tunnel to get them on their way to the Jefferson Building and all the Library's Treasures. Their son was getting married this weekend - he just got a new job with the IRS. We all chuckled. They were from Chicago - close to Milwaukee and a place we visited regularly. Two of their children went to college in Milwaukee. One went to MSOE and the other one attended Marquette University. Bingo! I went to Marquette for my masters degree in nursing administration with a clinical emphasis on peripheral vascular disease. But I loved the last thing they said... They have never met anyone from Marquette who didn't smile. It made my day.
