Deer - It Feels Like Wisconsin

We lived in Wisconsin thirty plus years a block away from Grant Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. We also had a beautiful white Borzoi named Tatiana. We used to walk in the park, but she also had a fenced in area with a dog house in the backyard. Oftentimes we would catch her having conversations with the deer that crossed through on their way to the park. When we moved to Capitol Hill in DC thirteen years ago, the concrete jungle became home. We saw a lot of dogs, and some wildlife living two blocks from the Capitol. My husband saw a red fox on the Capitol grounds, and there were a lot of hawks or falcons. Sometimes while driving along the GW Parkway and eagle could be seen - and there still is a nest overlooking a golf course in Alexandria on the way to Mount Vernon. Now that we moved to Virginia we take a morning walk in the small park near our house. It reminds us a lot of the wooded trails in Grant Park - except there is no Lake Michigan - but there are foot bridges and streams, cardinals, and chipmunks. Thank goodness we haven’t seen any snakes. This morning we saw our first deer stroll by us. It was alone and stopped for a bit to check us over and we did the same. It felt like we were back in Wisconsin. Wish it wasn’t so darn cold there because it’s really a nice place to live. I often wonder how we ended up where we are now. It sort of has the best of both worlds.
