Museums on the National Mall

We drove in to town this week. It was a rather dreary and cloudy day. We parked on the National Mall across from the American Indian Museum and started walking towards the carousel. I needed to get a photo of  “depth of focus” for the weekly challenge and thought this might be a good idea. It was also a good place to take our morning walk. It seems that the mall and Old Town Alexandria are our favorite places since we don’t choose to go inside anywhere and gives us a break from our neighborhood. We then walked through the Smithsonian castle gardens and past the art museums and the Department of Agriculture Building. After passing by the Washington Monument we headed back towards the Capitol building. This time I focused more on the entire buildings that were in the opposite side rather than close ups of where we were walking. After passing the trees that looked like they were planted in the center of the sidewalk, the Smithsonian Castle looked magnificent even though I was facing the sun. Next to that was the Arts and Industries Building with the carousel in front of it. Next up was the Hirshhorn Museum draped with colorful art tarps of women’s faces. And finally there was the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum that has been under construction for such a long time and will be closed through summer. We didn’t even get our two mile distance in this day. But it’s always a treat to enjoy the scenery - even on a dreary day.
