Mysterious Icemaker

We moved to northern Virginia three years ago from Capitol Hill. With the move to a new condo came new kitchen appliances.  We never had much luck with ice makers. They have usually stopped working not long after the first year - even with filter changes. That happened to three refrigerators that belonged to us. So we were thrilled when the Thermador refrigerator seemed to behave as it should. The hardest part about keeping it going was changing the filter that is located in the oddest place. You literally need to crawl on the floor to reach it on the bottom of the unit with the freezer door open. In December we noticed that the ice maker wasn’t working - surprise! So we read about it and decided to change the filter even though it wasn’t due. It didn’t make any difference. Since we have a warranty on the appliance we thought we would call once the omicron surge subsided. In the interim we started using the small ice cube tray. At the end of January my husband decided to readjust the filter that was already in place by removing it and reinserting it. He said he heard a “whoosh” noise. And wouldn’t you know that within the hour the ice cubes started to fall. I’m not sure what made him think to do whatever he did and we are so happy that the unit is working again after a month or more of nothing. It doesn’t take much to make us happy these days. Yesterday the reminder came on to change the filter. I just reset it because it has hardly been used. Let’s hope it doesn’t mess things up. Now the ice bin is full to the top and we are not hearing the sounds of the ice being made right now. So we removed some of the cubes to see if it’s still working. We will keep our fingers crossed.
