In Search of Sugar Cubes

My husband loves coffee and tea. And with the coffee and tea he has to have sugar cubes - not granulated sugar - but sugar cubes. We never used to have trouble finding sugar cubes - until recently. For whatever reason the cubes could not be found at our local Giant grocery. But it was inconsistent. They had them for awhile, then stopped again. And we can’t go without a back up supply. I have actually had to order them from Amazon because they always seem to have whatever you need without a lot of hassle. So this week when we went to the grocery store there was all kind of sugar available - but not sugar cubes. Then I had the idea that the Persian grocery store Yas in Vienna had them. I remember that we bought some before we went to visit family in central Virginia along with all the other treats. So after our morning walk we took a ride to Yas to pick up a few things that we needed anyway - cucumbers, lettuce, naan bread, sour cherry jelly, my husband’s favorite Persian cookies - and perhaps sugar cubes? We went right to the tea section and there they were in all shapes and sizes. It felt like we had hit the jackpot. We ended up picking a Sadaf container of cubes that are of all different sizes - just like in the old country. And they are called fancy sugar cubes. So it was worth the trip. We already had a lot of the bread for breakfast and will be having some of the cookies this evening with tea after dinner. What a treat!
