Old Town Alexandria Seasonal Decor

One of our favorite places to visit and take a morning walk is in Old Town Alexandria. We visited that area many times before we moved to the DC area sixteen years ago. We used to have lunch in town at least twice a month and always brought our out of town guests there. We were just there before Halloween to visit the haunted streets and relish the holiday decorations. People in Old Town take the decorating very seriously and the backdrop couldn’t be better. Imagine all the history behind those walls and doors. Now that the ghosts and goblins are gone, the neighborhood remains beautiful as it reflects the upcoming Thanksgiving season. The window boxes are filled with assortments of greens and pumpkins and such. There are a variety of wreaths on the doors. The flower pots flank the beautiful doorways. Yellow mums are everywhere. Where there are no formal gardens there are many pots filled to the brim. A few cornstalks frame the steps. There are also a some friendly scarecrows about. One home had eight very large window boxes filled with ivy and seasonal additions. The shops and restaurants along King Street won’t be outdone. The fall foliage and warm sun added to the mix. It is never a disappointment walking through these old streets. The architect is one of a kind. We are very glad we are able to still visit some of our favorite places. It’s the perfect time of the year.
