52frames Shallow Depth of Field Photo Challenge

The subject this week for the photo challenge was “shallow depth of field.” I had nothing specific in mind so we drove in to town for a morning walk and hoped something interesting would come up. We parked by the Smithsonian Castle on the  National Mall and immediately walked over to the carousel that hasn’t been operating since the pandemic hit. Then we headed towards the Botanic Garden. There wasn’t much going on there because they are getting ready for the orchid exhibit. It was a rather cloudy day, but when we passed by the Capitol reflecting pool the sun was trying to come out. The light hit the water just right and the sky looked interesting. And then the seagull appeared and I knew this might be the photo for the week - and he would be the focal point. He was actually staring me down. There was a couple trying to find their way along the path which was also a nice option. Then we went to the National gallery of art looking for some potential ideas. The images of people standing near, in front of, and along side some of the famous works of art were good - especially the one of the young girl rushing by. On the way back to the car we walked through the Enid Haupt gardens. The sundial, the odd flower, and the keyhole stone feature could do the trick. In the end we selected the seagull because the background and color looked so nice. This weekly activity has kept us busy for over two years now. And so far we haven’t gotten tired of it.
