Star Trek Mr Spock Ears

We went to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum last week. We hadn’t been there since it was renovated. But it is only half renovated. You need to get entry passes on line for admission. I liked it much more when you could just walk in. And living on Capitol Hill our morning walk took us past all of the Smithsonian museums. So we would go in when we knew it was the least busy and you didn’t need entry passes. We also went last week to see what photo options I might have for the black and white challenge. Among the Wright Brothers flying machine, the Apollo astronaut space suits, rocket boosters and capsules, and all sorts of flying vehicles overhead were three items any Star Trek lover would not want to miss. Neither my husband nor I are huge fans of the starship enterprise, but everyone knows Captain Kirk, Bones, Scotty, Mr Spock and all of the cast of characters in the original series. I do remember watching it because my sister liked it. So sprinkled about the museum were three items of cultural - not necessarily historical  -interest. The first was a model of the starship enterprise that was used for the tv series and donated to the museum from paramount studios. The second was a time capsule report highlighting major events of the century that was looping in the lunar landing area. In 1966 Star Trek had its first season. Then unexpectedly we came across probably one of the more enduring props - Mr Spock’s Vulcan ears. The pointed ears are kept in a hand made black box that was donated by the Nimoy family. The morning walk at the museum was worth it. We probably won’t return until the other half gets completed. That won’t be for quite a long time.
