Lady Bird Park and Johnson Memorial Grove

Yesterday we were going to take a morning walk at Roosevelt Island. It’s best to go there during the week to avoid the crowds. It’s a hidden spot in an urban environment to walk about nature and admire the changes in the seasons. But it’s a tricky exit because we have to travel to Arlington Memorial Bridge and make a u turn. We missed our exit and ending up heading back to the Pentagon. So we stopped there to see Lady Bird Park instead. We have been there a few times and it was a good time to explore the area again. There is a decent walking path that takes you to a marina. Many of the larger boats were there with many more to join in the spring. A small restaurant is located there with a lot of outdoor seating. It must be packed when the weather is nice. Then there is a tunnel that takes you under the GW Parkway across to the other side nearer to the Potomac River. We passed by the navy-marine memorial surrounded by the ever present geese, and then turned back to avoid putting on too many miles. Along the way we stopped at the Lyndon Johnson Memorial Grove that faces the Washington monument where there was another pack of geese meandering about. Several planes were heading towards Reagan airport. Then we saw both Marine helicopters hovering and then lowering near where the White House is located. On the way back to the car we passed by even more geese. Crossing the bridge you can always find a few ducks. One of these days we need to visit the September 11 memorial at the pentagon. This place is very serene in spite  of being right next to the parkway. I’m looking forward to seeing the fields of daffodils.
