Washington DC in 1939-1940

My Dad joined the Coast Guard in 1939 and stayed in for twenty one years. He traveled all over the world and was on a destroyer escort in World War II. Having just spent the weekend at home in Florida I looked at the old photo albums. He has two that chronicle his travels. It was interesting to see photos of him and a buddy standing in front of the monuments in Washington DC. So there is a connection to this place in a weird way. He is 94 now and doesn't remember things. It's a good thing we have such wonderful photographs.
