Another Cataract Surgery - A Little Different

Two weeks ago my husband had cataract surgery at the outpatient center in Reston. All in all it went very well. The second eye was scheduled for today - later in the day compared to the first one. What we noticed this time was that Wednesday is quieter than a Friday, but on a Friday the post op eye check was on the same day. We will need to drive back in tomorrow for a post op check. But the other biggest difference was the respiratory screening station that you needed to enter before getting registered. Obviously the Coronavirus has caused great caution everywhere but in particular at any care facility. So we both needed to complete the questionnaire about having cough, fever, travel outside the country, etc. Also in plain view are many bottles of hand sanitizer that everyone is taking advantage of using. It’s hard to remember to keep your hands away from your face, especially when everything now seems full of germs. If this procedure wasn’t scheduled I’m not sure how much we would venture out because we are in the over sixty category. Every time I start feeling “normal” the news makes you feel “nervous.” Even though both my husband and I were health care providers in our professional lives, it would be really difficult to have to go to work in these conditions. To all the nurses and doctors and health care professionals out there we feel for you. All we can do is take one day at a time. In the mean time, I just want to get home.
