US Botanic Garden Gardens

We hadn’t been to the city since January so we decided to take a ride in last week to see the orchids at the US Botanic Garden. We parked in our old neighborhood- which wasn’t easy since we no longer have our parking permit. So with only two hours to sightsee we hustled our way over. One of the gardens we passed through was the First Ladies Garden. It’s still quite bare, but the signs of spring were everywhere. Some trees were blooming, the daffodils were poking out, and the sun was bright with blue skies. What more could one ask for? The tall grasses were overgrown in the little pond and stream. The American Indian museum profile always fits right in with the landscape. The maze still sits on the west lawn but was much quieter than at Christmas. At the front of the gardens building the US Capitol proudly sits. There’s still a hint of the greens from the Christmas season. It hardly matters when we come here because it’s always so lovely. It probably means more to us now because we only see it once in awhile rather than every day on a morning walk. At least we still have the option to visit.
