Free Home Covid Test

I read somewhere that Fairfax County is offering free home Covid test kits. The locations are at the public libraries. The next read was that they ran out of tests within the morning hours. We pass by the McLean public library almost every day on our morning walk. On Monday there was a line of people waiting to get in to pick up the free test. When we walked by again the line was gone and there was a sign on the door that there were no tests available. So today when we walked by we didn’t notice a line, and the sign that was up before was removed. So after we did our usual walk in the park we stopped in the library. It was the first time we visited there. There were quite a few staff people, and of course we went to the wrong desk. We were shown where to pick up the test kits. There were three people waiting behind the counter. I asked if we needed to show identification and they said no and handed us two kits. I hope we never need to use them but we will have them on hand if we do. The brand is Abbott BinaxNOW. It includes one test. You need to download the Navica app and create an account prior to an appointment. I always wondered how positive home tests would be included in the national numbers. I guess when you register it somehow gets updated. I’ll need to read more about it. At least we have them if we need them. We will keep our fingers crossed.
