Laurie Anderson The Weather at the Hirshhorn

We haven’t been inside of the Hirshhorn Museum of Art since the pandemic started. We used to visit all the time when we lived on Capitol Hill. We have walked by it almost every week. It’s now undergoing major renovation right now. The museum reopened a while back but only for a few days in the week. Yesterday we decided it was time to visit again - and we saw a most weird exhibit by Laurie Anderson. The installation took up the entire third floor. I don’t claim to be an artist, but some things are more pleasing to the eye than others. This was not one of those. It was spectacular - to say the least. But we both found the dark surroundings very distracting and almost ugly. It wasn’t very uplifting to us. I understand that Laurie Anderson is a pioneer in multi media projects but this just wasn’t our cup of tea. We are glad that we saw it, but we left feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. May be that is the point. I’m not much for black and white either, so that didn’t help. There were a lot of visitors. All in all we were glad to spend our morning in the city, walk along the national mall, and then pick up our favorite Greek food at Vaso’s Kitchen in Alexandria. We weren’t doing anything like this last year. And for that we are thankful.
