Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Holly, Woods, and Vine
One of the things we didn’t bring with us from our tiny Capitol Hill condo were flower pots. We had a few on the outside patio. We didn’t think we would need them because we now only have a balcony with enough space for a loveseat and chair at our new Virginia condo. But we are now on the look out for a white distressed farmhouse console table that we think might look nice in the dining room. There is a perfect spot for it and something that will add color, softness, and greenery are flower pots in a variety of sizes, contents, and shades. We decided to drive out to Holly, Woods, and Vines to see if they might have an unexpected garden/plant/console table - sometimes you can find these sorts of things in those sorts of places. While we were there we walked about the extensive grounds and checked out all the stuff - from bar stools to garden statues. We didn’t have any luck with finding a table and will probably end up getting something on line. But in the mean time we did stumble across a few flower pots that my husband liked. We didn’t get any plants yet, but are looking forward to bringing the garden we once had outdoors inside. It can be a hassle to order “large” items to a fourth floor unit so I need to find out more about the logistics of it all. All I know is that the dining room needs a bit of whimsy and this approach might just do the trick.
