The Lincoln Memorial

When we were at the Tidal Basin a few days ago before all the streets were blocked off, we took a walk over to the Lincoln Memorial from the FDR and MLK memorials. We drive by the Lincoln Memorial all the time since we take Memorial Bridge in to the city - when we lived on Capitol Hill and now since we moved to northern Virginia. There was hardly any one in sight - more police and helicopters. Watching the inaugural events last night made it even more interesting since we had just walked in the same steps as so many people who visited the place this week. Our view of the memorial was always from the other side of town. We lived two blocks from the Capitol so when we looked west the Washington monument was clearly visible, then behind that were the WWII and Lincoln memorials. Whenever we see scenes of Washington - especially around the National Mall and Capitol - we miss our walks and events. But we are close enough to drive in every week for a ride and hopefully one day will be able to start to attend programs at the Library of Congress where I worked for ten years. Since joining the 52Frames weekly photography challenge it is also an excuse to find more photo options. We are hoping the city opens up this week so we can take a ride in soon.
