Signs of Spring on the National Mall

It was such a gorgeous day this week to head out to the national mall. I wanted to get photos for the 52Frames challenge - this week was “negative space.” But the main reason was to simply enjoy the sunshine and the milder temps that we have been craving. Rather than park in our old Capitol Hill neighborhood, we found a spot next to the natural history museum. The flower gardens at the Smithsonian castle were calling. The buds were forming on the magnolia trees and everything was coming alive. The first cherry blossoms were at the Hirshhorn sculpture garden. Last year we didn’t even consider venturing out when everything shut down on March 13. I am looking forward to this spring for a lot of reasons - like so many others. My little window box garden is also starting to come alive since we planted a few things in the fall for the Christmas and winter season - ivy, pansies, and long decorative grass. It’s about time to start looking forward to things again. Spring is a great reminder.
