Using the Can Opener Correctly?

Well, we have been using can openers for as long as we can remember. I’m sure you all have been doing the same. Now some of the cans come with mechanisms to pop the top, but many of the cans still need to be opened the old fashioned way. So it was with interest when I read a short article that appeared somewhere during a newsfeed that we have all been using the can opener the wrong way. I always placed the opener so that the mechanism was vertical to the can. This approach cut along the top of the can, but left a ragged edge that could cause damage to the fingers if not handled correctly. So we tried using the mechanism a different way - so that it was horizontal to the can. I really didn’t think it would matter that much. But I was very wrong. The opener left a very smooth cut along the side of the can when it was cutting along the horizontal curve. When the top was removed, the can and the cover was smooth. I was quite surprised - especially since we have been doing it the “wrong way” forever. So it’s always good to keep on the look out for doing things easier or smarter. Who would have thought it would be about a can?
