Observations, pictures, and sketches highlight the transition of moving to the nations's Capitol after 30 years of living in the Midwest. A clash in cultures? Maybe not!

Wolf Trap National Park
We have heard about it since we moved to the DC area fifteen years ago and it’s only a few miles away from our northern Virginia condo. I looked it up on line to see if there was more to it than the outdoor auditorium that hosts a variety of programs. Wolf Trap is not only a theater, but a national park. I wish I had brought the map with me when we decided to take a morning walk there yesterday. We ended up “winging it” by starting off at the parking lot that has just a small trail. So we got back in the car and crossed the street over to where the actual theater is. It’s a massive structure that was being renovated. In fact, there were many service trucks all over the place that took up a lot of parking places. We couldn’t seem to find an opening to the trails until we found someone who pointed us in the right direction. It was such a beautiful sunny day we didn’t want to miss out on an adventure outside of our usual haunts. Once we finally found the path it was good, but much too hilly for our blood. And not knowing exactly where the trail was heading, we cut it short sooner than later. We prefer a much flatter surface so as to not have to look down constantly for fear of falling. Climbing up also aggravates my knee and hip. All in all it was a very pleasant experience but I’m not sure we would want to go back. It was not crowded at all. I’m glad we checked the venue out anyway. It hardly matters where one goes when the weather is so lovely.
