Morning Walk on the National Mall

It’s been at least two weeks since we drove in to town. Last week was unusual because of the overcast and rainy skies and unplanned appointments. We really missed our usual trek and morning walk on the national mall. So we got a great parking spot by the Air and Space Museum. We hadn’t been to the Smithsonian Gardens by the castle for at least a month. How things have changed! You can tell it is late summer. Everything is overgrown and past bloom time. But it was lovely walking through. The grass on the mall has never been greener with the help of all of the rain this season. We walked through the national gallery of art sculpture garden and the fountain was in full blast. We then walked through the National Gallery of Art which is always delightful. Then we headed to the US Botanical Garden. All of the plants were really overgrown! For the first time this year we saw a monarch butterfly by the American Indian museum. As our parking meter was running low we made our way back to the Air and Space Museum which is still undergoing major renovation. Apparently part of the museum will be reopening in October and you will need timed passes to get in. It was a beautiful day to spend time in our old neighborhood - it never gets old.
