Walkabout NW DC

Last week we were interested in looking at a living room carpet at Room and Board. We ended up driving to essentially a store front in Bethesda, then decided to go to the main store in NW DC to see the real thing. Driving to this area of town is always a challenge, even on a Sunday afternoon. In fact, driving anywhere in DC is always a challenge. But at least when we lived on Capitol Hill for thirteen years we were familiar with the neighborhood. So we finally found a parking space about four blocks from our destination. It was a one way street and reminded us of Duddington near our old home. It was filled with very quaint row houses. There is something to be said about them, but living in them is another story. Along the way we came across some interesting things. One house had a flowered vine growing from the first to the third floor. Another had a huge dead vine that covered the whole side of the house but looked interesting. As always there was is some sort of construction going on in the alleyways and otherwise. On U street there was an artist doing his thing with several finished products on display. We wouldn’t want to live in this neighborhood for a lot of reasons. But it’s always nice to drive in once in a while and enjoy the sights and sounds. As for the carpet? We haven’t made a decision.
