Morning Walk Quote

As we do every morning, we take a walk. Sometimes it is in the neighborhood. Sometimes it is at the mall when the weather is foul - like today. And at least once - and sometimes twice - a week we drive in to our old stomping grounds in DC. We usually park on the national mall or the tidal basin and just go in any direction. The US Botanic Garden, National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian gardens, US Capitol and the Library of Congress are our favorite spots. Recently the serene Constitution Gardens is a nice walk in between the WWII Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Every once in a while we will park in the old neighborhood on Capitol Hill and head to the Navy Yard, Yards Park, and surrounding area. If we don’t go in to DC we will drive in to Old Town Alexandria or sometimes Theodore Roosevelt Island. We tried a couple of day trips this summer just for a change of pace and realized that the traffic getting in and out of town wasn’t worth the hassle, and there are more interesting things to see here. One thing stays the same no matter where we go. We always hold hands. It doesn’t matter where we are it’s a common thing to do. And it’s very comforting. People oftentimes comment about it as we pass, or give us a thumbs up from someone driving past. But I have to say that last week was the most interesting. We were walking in the neighborhood park and a gentleman walked by us. And as he was passing by us he said “It’s nice to know some people make the right decisions in life.” Obviously we agree! We were hoping the same sentiment was felt by him…but one will never know.
