Parking on Capitol Hill

When we lived on Capitol Hill we had to deal with street parking. The only thing good about it was we could park anywhere because the car was registered. But we also had a parking permit. That meant a lot of the street was meant for residents only. It also made it easier for guests because we could lend them a permit if they came to visit. It’s a big problem to find parking now - especially if it’s for over a two hour period. We were hoping to go to a Library of Congress program this month, but it starts at 6:30 and lasts for two hours. That means we need to start parking at least by 6:00 and end it at 9:00. We may end up not going because there are not a lot of available spots for this time period. The last thing we want to do is get towed. So we scouted out the neighborhood to refresh our memories about the restrictions. Most of them don’t allow “free” and over two hour parking until after 8:30, 9:30, or even midnight. That won’t work. There are a lot of pay to park that indicate until 6:30. But what happens after 6:30? The parking garage closes at 6:30. I refuse to take metro - especially at night, and I’m not a fan of Uber anymore - especially for the return trip. We may end up not going because of the time and parking problem. That was the one advantage of living on Capitol Hill. It’s a real pain to visit - especially if it’s over two hours, during the week, and in the evening.
