52Frames Hello From DC

We started out at the Lincoln Memorial at one of my favorite spots for the 52Frames weekly photo challenge. The subject was “hello from…”. Obviously for me, it would be something about DC. We drove over the Arlington Memorial Bridge and parked by the Potomac River, then walked the two blocks over to the memorial. It was a breath of fresh air to finally get out of the house. There were a few people ambling about. We climbed up the steps to the north side of the monument. I took several photos of the arch that shows the Washington Monument with the Capitol building behind it in the distance. Then we walked a bit by the reflecting pool, then got back in to the car to visit the Capitol. We parked by the American Indian museum and hiked up the hill to the east side of the Capitol, where the lying in state ceremony was just beginning for Harry Reid. We watched as the casket was taken up the front steps. After that we walked back over to the west lawn and the Capitol reflecting pool. The pool turned to ice after the snow storm. The sun was shining a bit and the reflection cast on the pool was interesting. I had taken a few photos of the Capitol building and the reflection, but ended up liking the reflection alone as the submission this week. Rather than maintain the image, I turned it upside down so the shadow of the bird looked like the real thing, and the leaves and the ice became the clouds in the sky. It looked rather dreamy. This is probably one of my favorite images for the challenges, and so far I have received several very positive comments on the website. We went back the next day to see if I could get a better shot, but it was cloudy and grey. At least we had an opportunity to get out of the house again. That’s what the challenge is mostly about.
